[00:00:08] Welcome to Crashing Game Night, my name is Matt Diario, your host as always. We got the shield baron Captain America again, Gerard Barrera.
[00:00:24] How are you all you nerds out there? How's it going? Yeah, that's right. Not the beaning one today. I got a headband keeping the hair tamed from getting wild because it's a little hot. So yeah, didn't make sense to have a beanie. But it's gonna be a good day. Boys are here. We're missing Theowalski, but it's alright. He's under the weather.
[00:00:48] We got the man with the couch after his Mai Tai sippin' beach vacation. Our maitre d'oeuv services, the man, the myth, the legend, the lion's mane, Jason Belletio. How's it going guys? How's it going? Back at home on the couch, you know, chilling. Might have to get a little towel or something over the couch is hot. It'll be sticky on the couch.
[00:01:17] I mean, it is a leather couch, you know. It's okay. You sunburned? You doing okay from all that sun? Yeah, nah, nah. I'm all good, man. I'm all good. Nice, nice. Very good. Very cool. Matt, how are things going with you?
[00:01:37] Things are alright. Here it is a nice, balmy, humid 76 degrees and thunderstorming out right now. You know, compared to you all out in LA, it's only 80 degrees. Yeah. But you guys had a heat advisory and it was only 86. It's like, ugh. Again, it's not the degrees. It's the humidity.
[00:02:07] It's the humidity, yeah. So it gets hot. And that's what people on the coast don't realize, you know. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's crazy too. Me and my wife were driving by and we saw a literal brush fire on the freeway and we're like, oh, well. Like, it's like normal. Like, it's a normal thing, you know. That's what's kind of scary. It's like, yeah, it's a normal thing with a small little mini brush fire on the side of the freeway. Yeah.
[00:02:38] So I ended up getting a little bit of a haul for Collector's Corner this past week. Oh, really? We got some Collector's Corner. Yep. All right. Because I took some of my collectibles, some of my pop figures, and some of my Lego sets that, you know, a lot of them were just impulse buys. And we're just sitting in storage and stuff. And I went down to my local comic shop. Shout out to Time and Space Comics here where I live. It's a great shop.
[00:03:05] They got a lot of, I mean, dude, they have an old school original Star Wars figure section there. And I see those and I'm like, I had that. Oh, wow. I had that. It's like, man. Oh, no. I miss my stuff. Anyways, I'm trading some stuff, picked up some stuff while I was there, and then got something else too. But, so I have to give a shout out to my financial advisor, Gerard Pereira.
[00:03:36] Because, you know, I called him while I was there. I was like, hey, I'm, you know, after I just traded in a bunch of Lego sets, I'm like, I'm considering getting another Lego set or two. So, through his advice, I ended up going with the animated series Batmobile. There you go.
[00:04:05] Ooh, that looks, that looks really good. Like, it looks, yeah. I have a, a, a Hot Wheel of the Bat, the, the, you know, the animated one. It looks so good. And it comes with the gray suit. Oh, cool. Batman. Oh, cool. Another, uh, you got another figure. Yeah. Um, with the Batmobiles, I keep their figures in, in the Batmobile. So they're all kind of together.
[00:04:35] The other nice thing is it comes on a rotating base. And it actually has the animated series on it. Oh, I like that. It says the Batmobile gives its length. It's 21.2 feet long, 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds. Max speed is 310 miles per hour with jet booster. That is awesome. Fuel is diesel. Engine is a turbo diesel V8 and jet turbine.
[00:05:07] Dope. So, you know, um, and it also came with a minifig for Mr. Freeze. Sweet. With animated series, Mr. Freeze. Cool. And then animated series, Harley Quinn. Harley. Oh, dope. Um, then perusing.
[00:05:31] I happened to notice that they had, I had never seen these before an actual Lego Superman. Oh, cool. And the Lego Zod. Zod. Oh, yep. And he's holding a, uh, Gotham, Gotham Gazette. Oh, so they came out with these figures for like a Batman DC superheroes crossover.
[00:06:00] So the fact is it's Zod. I was like, yeah, gotta get that. Now, Jason, this is where I'll make you happy because I happen to end up ended up picking up some physical discs. Oh, what? Some what? And it's gonna, and, uh, two of these, two of these very much are part of the history of this podcast. They are what again? The what though? Physical. They're physical. Oh. There we go. Um, yep.
[00:06:30] So the first one, uh, is the collector's limited edition steelbook for destiny one. And sweet. Look at that. Yes. So cool. It was funny. Um, you know, this was one of those ones I saw it and I had to pick it up because. You know, we were there for, for destiny one. Yeah. You know, when it was just.
[00:07:01] Way back in the, uh, alpha days. And then of course they also had the steelbook for two. Number two. Yeah. Physical. And then lastly, they happen to have the steelbook for. Last was two. Two. And I totally forgot. Look, it was two discs. That's right. And.
[00:07:29] You know, we talk about, you know, the downloads and stuff that you get from PlayStation store. This one had. The data disc. And then. The play disc. You had to. Install that one. And then do the second one. So. Good old data disc. Yeah. It was just too, too large. Yeah. Yep. And then, uh, finally.
[00:07:59] We know me and the fact that I love Astro Bot. Oh yeah. Yeah. Awesome. That looks awesome. Astro Bot as Sly Cooper. Right here. Yeah. That one's cool. So. Um, I couldn't, I, this was one that we saw. We've talked about it. Like I saw it immediately back when we were looking at all the new YouTube stuff. And I was like, yeah, I need that one. Yeah.
[00:08:30] So. Yeah. So it was a good little haul, you know? And I got, uh, Jerry's Christmas present already. That's right. Thank you. So now I just need to get Jason his. I'm debating on that one. No, I do. No. See, here's the thing. Hey, I don't care whether you give me one or not. I always like to give gifts. It's because it's a nice thing to do. It's because I want to show the people in my life that I care. You know?
[00:09:01] And you got to admit the last two years, I've gotten you some pretty, uh, nice gifts. Speaking of which, have you, have you, have you put that puzzle together yet? No. Like, uh, I've, there's a couple of the puzzles I've been working on. Um. Oh, so it's just in the line. Like, like I said. Yeah. Backlog. I wake up, I sleep, I go to work. Yeah. That's it. That's like, yeah. And with your backlog, you got, you know, you got quite a bit of a bit of a backlog, even with your puzzles.
[00:09:31] Yeah. Yeah. With puzzles and with the game. So, you know, I can only do so much in a day. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so with that being said, let's get started tonight. We got a couple of things to kind of dive into. Um, you know what? I'm going to let Jerry spin the wheel first.
[00:09:51] Oh, your categories tonight, sir, are Bethesda, Nintendo and tariffs, PlayStation physical sales, or San Diego Comic-Con. Ooh, I'm sorry, but, uh, I'm going to, I'm going to have to go San Diego Comic-Con because, uh, I'm going to be missing it this year. So I want to know everything there is.
[00:10:22] So that being said, let's dive right on into the theater. Sweet. And let's discuss some, uh, San Diego, a little bit of San Diego Comic-Con, which, uh, the kickoff evening is tomorrow as we record this on July 21st. Um, by the time this episode, uh, is up this weekend, it will be, um, San Diego Comic-Con is already going to be almost done for the most part. I think on his final day. Yeah. Yep.
[00:10:52] So, uh, a couple of day first things, uh, going on for day one and day two. Now, uh, keep in mind, uh, Jerry, you are missing Marvel's return to Hall H. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Um, however, that being said, I mean, you've got Doomsday, which we got the trailer for, which. Oh man. Looks so good. My boy Gambit.
[00:11:22] And I just got to, in general, the X-Men, like, gotta give shout outs to Cyclops looking, looking real 1990s comic book with that suit. Um, but I think the only other thing you've got brand new day, which is in two weeks, you know, actually no next week. Right? Yeah. It's next week.
[00:11:49] Um, so I don't know how much more Marvel could have to show off maybe a little bit of hint at secret wars, but. Um, but when you look at, uh, day one, uh, you've got DC is showing up with lanterns, um, Blade Runner 2099. So I'm not sure what they're doing, uh, in regards to that, which was the Ryan Gosling flick.
[00:12:16] You've got a venture time, uh, side quest, the vampire list stat, uh, Carrie regular show. My adventures with Superman, which is the new animated cartoon that's going on right now. Uh, day two is going to have the walking dead, uh, Lord of the Rings ring of power, uh, control resident, which is the new control game that's coming out. That's part of that whole universe. Uh, you're going to have some Star Trek strange new worlds. Yeah.
[00:12:46] Uh, this is the, uh, the panel. This is what I'm looking forward to, uh, dungeon crawler Carl, uh, because they are going to be doing a live action adaptation of the books. So I'm curious to see who actually cast as Carl. So, uh, just to add to that, cause I, I didn't know much about this, but have you read these books, man? I am two thirds of the way through the first book. I already have the second book already teed up.
[00:13:16] So I, I love the book. So something also, uh, in also in, uh, uh, regard to San Diego, uh, I also look at what the exclusives are and what I'm going to be messing out on. And apparently, uh, there's a dungeon crawler Carl figure that's going to be exclusive this year.
[00:13:38] And I was even considering like, Hey, that's kind of dope, but I swear I've heard this before, but I don't know who this character is, but all the accessories in like the, like the dungeon crawler car, like it looks like a lot of fun. So like, I wasn't even considering, I might want to get that figure, but, uh, yeah, I believe that's going to be an exclusive, uh, for San Diego this year. Uh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There it is. Okay.
[00:14:08] So, oh yeah. So it is, it is going to be a, it's a playmates. Oh my Lord. Yeah. God, that is exactly. Is that like, is that like how it is in the books? Yes. Oh, so he goes, that's so funny, dude. Like, I like now I'm interested, like, I kind of want to read these books now. They're hilarious because that is exact. Oh, just those figures are awesome.
[00:14:37] Um, so that's the mentor. Those are the goblins. I haven't gotten to that part in the book yet. Yeah. So he actually goes out into the snow to get. Princess donut. Um, off the, off the roof and then everything happens. Right. So he's in his boxers and like no shoes and his jacket.
[00:15:07] Right. And he goes into the dungeon and ends up finding knee pads with spikes on them. Like it is so absurd. And she does. Pretty much shoot fireballs. As her power. Oh my God. And that's, and that's a cat. Yes. It's a cat. Princess donut is a cat. That's awesome. Princess donut is a cat.
[00:15:32] So the fact that, um, Oh, it's like a Barnes and Noble books, a million, uh, urban outfitters, hot topic and box lunch are going to have them in the fall. Oh, okay. Cool. Oh my God. Like, okay. Prince, there's princess donut. Okay. Yeah. So go to the, go to the actual figure. Cause the accessories were, were pretty funny too.
[00:15:56] Um, so you've got the cat, you've got. Yeah. The laser eyes, the different hands on some slash and like punch bloody effects. Yeah. Cause that's all he, that's all he does. Like he can't, he has a weapon. So he basically just uses his fist. So he's a brawler. He's just a brawler. Yeah. But he, he can carry everything. So he loots everything.
[00:16:26] Like if it's not nailed down, he's taking it. Yes. That's so funny. Yes. So yeah. Princess donut, the queen and chunk. So yeah, that's fine. Okay. Yeah. That's a, yeah. That's one of the things I, I, uh, I noticed too. Um, cool. So, and I guess there's a miniature set too.
[00:16:56] So yeah, it is, uh, absolutely. Uh, it's a, it's a great book. It's a lot of references. Um, there's a scene in the book where they come across these two goblin women that are described in the worst way possible. And princess donut calls them, uh, Rory and Lorelai fucking from Gilmore. Oh my God. That's funny. Yeah.
[00:17:24] So there's a lot of, and then also, so I guess the cat speaks as well. Uh, once you get into the dungeon. Yes. Oh, wow. That's funny. And it's hilarious. Like, yeah, I would have to check these books out. Yeah. They're totally worth it. You can get them for like 15 bucks on Amazon hardback. Um, you get them cheaper on, you know, for paperback, but I like I've, I'm on a hardback kick.
[00:17:49] Um, it's just one of those things like you guys with physical games with my books. I prefer hardback. I gotcha. So, but yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to finishing out the book. Uh, now that, you know, things are settling in with rehab and everything. I can kind of start back into that routine of reading again, finish that book, get over to the second one, start ordering the rest of them. So, um, so yeah, so Alienware is going to be there.
[00:18:18] Um, it'll be, uh, interesting to see what we hear out of Hall H. Uh, interesting to see what we see out of Lanterns. Um, cause it looks good. Um, but yeah, it's not bad. I mean, we'll see how the rest of it all plays out though. Um, Jay. Me. I'll let you spin the, spin the wheel. Where are we going next?
[00:18:45] We going Bethesda, Nintendo tariffs or PlayStation physical games. Well, I mean like, we'll just go down the line. Let's go with the next tab is. Bethesda. All right. So they kind of, um, they put out a, a letter, um, from the studio to kind of let everybody know what's going on with them. And it's kind of, you know, some of it's nice here because I saw, um, an article where
[00:19:10] I was talking to Todd Howard and he said he actually goes into Reddit to see what people want in Bethesda games. That's kind of how they come up with some of their add ons. I think I'm from Reddit. Um, but the letter reads and you can get this from Bethesda.net, uh, a note from Bethesda game studios. Uh, we love making these worlds as much as you love playing in them today. We want to share what's next for Bethesda game studios and what you can expect from us in
[00:19:38] the years ahead for 40 years. We've built games that have entertained almost half a billion players, more than just games. These are worlds worlds for you to explore shape and make your own world roles. We return to together unless you throw the disc against the wall and break it. Cause it glitches. Um, I want those 80 hours back in those a hundred hours. Uh, that's what striving is still not bitter.
[00:20:05] You spend a hundred hours on a game and have it glitch and waste all of that time. No, I totally get it. I would, I would be pissed. So, uh, It's just funny. Yeah, I'm still not over it. Yeah. Um, that's what's driving us forward. We're investing more deeply in the world. Hey, you know what though? But I love being at the Bethesda presser in 2015. That was great to be able to, to see that and all the games coming out. I'm surprised you guys didn't try and keep those, uh, light bracelets.
[00:20:35] They wouldn't let us. So you had to, you had to hand them back in at the end. Um, and then, uh, if you didn't, there was no way you were getting the little mini pack of figures that they came out with, which was, uh, for fallout. Um, Oh, and was it dishonored? Yeah, maybe. So, uh, anyways, we're investing more deeply in these worlds. Uh, players love giving creators a bigger role in their shaping their experiences and
[00:21:04] bringing your teams closer together. So we can get our games into your hands sooner, support them longer and continue building them alongside for decades alongside you for decades to come. So, uh, the first up was star field is going to be continuing. Uh, so with over 17 million players logging almost a billion hours to date, star field remains an important part of our future as we enter year three, which I can't believe it's already year three of that game.
[00:21:29] Uh, we'll continue expanding the settled systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements and additional updates while preparing for the launch of a new star born content next year. More than 40% of players already customized their experience through creations and will continue investing in creators and giving players new ways to make star field their own. Um, so created by players. We believe from the beginning of their worlds belong, not only to the people who make them, but
[00:21:58] also to the play people who play them. That's why we've long provided players with the tools to create their own experiences dating back to Mar the Morrowind construction set this year marked another major milestone for creations with expansion to fallout for, uh, joining skyrim and star field. We're proud to say creators have already earned more than 10 million in royalties from their work. So I'm not sure what creators is, but I'm guessing it's probably like something where you, you kind of build stuff and put it out there for people to buy.
[00:22:26] Um, but Hey, you know what they've, who knows expansions or DLC or something like that. That's what, yeah. Um, what is creators? Oh, here we go. Uh, it's a system to less community monitors to create official game content, get verified Bethesda and earn money for their work. Hmm. Okay, cool.
[00:22:54] So kudos to all of them that are doing that, you know? Um, so, uh, future of fallout. So fallout is one of the biggest priorities today. Fallout five remains our long range destination. We have multiple fallout projects in active development right now. All at seven. Yeah. Right. Fallout 76 continues to be home to millions of players exploring Appalachia together with nearly 70 free updates released to date.
[00:23:23] The journey is far from over. In fact, we have a major fallout 76 expansion plan for next year. Raven rock a prequel story to fallout three. Fallout four, the most award winning game in the franchise is celebrated its 10th anniversary and recently passed over 35 million copies continuing to attract a new audience every year. We also know many players want to revisit previous fallout experiences.
[00:23:49] While we're not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both fallout three and fallout new Vegas. So I think those are going to make a lot of people happy. Um, I think fallout three though, hopefully they fixed the memory leak problem, which played the PS three. Um, uh, fallout shelter continues to be the most popular way to experience fallout on the go with more than 250 million players.
[00:24:18] There's more head for fallout shelter, including new seasons and unscripted fallout shelter. Television project is also in the works with our partners at Amazon studios and kilter films. We like to can try congratulate Phil kilter films and Amazon studios on the 10 Emmy nominations for fallout season two production on season three season three is already on underway. So it got picked up again. Very cool.
[00:24:47] And while we won't hosted a traditional fallout day broadcast this year, we're already planning something special for fallouts 30th anniversary in 2027 when fallout day will be celebrated live in Washington, DC. Hmm. Maybe I'll go check it out just to see what it's like. Um, studio collaborations wasteland continues to expand as we team up again with our longtime friends of city and entertainment.
[00:25:14] We're happy to confirm they're working with us on a new fallout project, which, um, for those that don't know, obsidian was the original studio who did new Vegas. Um, they'll share more, uh, in the future. We're also bringing our teams closer together across Bethesda Zenimax online studios. We'll partner closely with Bethesda game studios on elder scrolls franchise while continuing to deliver incredible new experiences for the elder scrolls online, uh, season one return
[00:25:43] of the thieves guild recently launched and team has planned more for the future. Uh, elder scrolls and beyond, uh, their team, the team is actively developing elder scrolls six and fallout five on creation engine three, a shared technology platform. We've been building since star fields launch allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering and systems that define our games. Fallout five is currently in pre-production.
[00:26:13] The elder scrolls six is our primary development focus today with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise with over 65 million copies sold. Players are still exploring Skyrim 15 years later. 15. That's, that's gotta be great. That one's gotta be coming out. PS six. I would imagine. Yeah. For as fast as that's going to be for as big as that's going to be.
[00:26:41] It's gotta be coming out with PS six. Mm-hmm. Cool. Um, they said, but we know it's been a very long wait for the sequel. The next chapter is on the way where, uh, uh, where we're planned to be loving how it looks and playing it every day road ahead. Finally, this is how they close it out is across Bethesda game studios. We're building for the future of fallout, the elder scrolls and star field.
[00:27:06] We're investing in our technology, bringing teams closer together, supporting our live games, expanding into new forms of entertainment and developing the next generation, but as the RPGs, we could be more excited for what's ahead and wanted to share as much as we could today. We can't thank you enough for all you've given to us and these worlds and we can't wait to continue them together. But that's the game studio. Um, I can't just 15 years in Skyrim.
[00:27:37] Good Lord. Like that's number. Yeah. That's pretty crazy to think of. Yeah. So I think if we're looking at anything from Bethesda, I think, you know, getting three in new Vegas remastered is huge because a lot of people have asked for new Vegas to be remastered.
[00:28:01] So, you know, I hope these games come sooner than later for everybody. Um, cause at some time at, at some point you get tired of waiting. Um, I know fallout and elder scrolls has its base, but let's be honest. They're not Grand Theft Auto. You have, you're going to have to build your, your fan base. So you're going to have to. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:28:31] So, um, for saying, Hey, this is what we've got going, you know, gives people a little bit of something to kind of look forward to. Um, you know, it works, you know, but you know, right now, nobody, everybody is just, this is what we have planned is what we have planned. And nobody is going to care until after GTA six, honestly. Let's be real. Let's be real.
[00:28:59] But the other thing I think, uh, in, in regard to like them being a little more transparent, I think, uh, is showing kind of like the stepping stone of what they, you know, what a game studio should be doing. I think just to not to save face, but to just like, Hey, listen, we're, we're listening to you guys. Just a little bit of acknowledgement to the fans. Like, Hey, we're listening to you guys. This is the agenda. This is what we're doing. This is what's planned.
[00:29:30] Uh, you know, maybe not say that it's a guaranteed thing, but I, I like it because at least it's sending, you know, Hey, this is what we're planning on. Be ready. You know, we are listening to you at least or something like that. You know? Um, no, I kind of appreciate it. I like it. Yep. I mean, you can, you can say that same thing for a lot of major studios that have their,
[00:29:56] their constant IP, you know, like, Oh, but the thing is, they don't normally, I don't think they normally do that. They, they normally don't lay out a game plan or say like, or at least, Hey, they'll send out like a teaser trailer or, you know, Oh, uh, or send out like a little bit of teaser news about their biggest franchise and nothing else. You know, Bethesda laid out a plan on all three of their, their franchises to say, Hey, this is the plan. Yeah.
[00:30:24] A lot of game studios don't, don't do that. I feel. Well, this is what they're doing though, is that they're like just leaning back on the, the player base that they already have, you know, their star field, uh, uh, fallout. Well, right. Right. But because would you, wouldn't you say that the last few years with, with, uh, their, their, their, even just even their big games that have been coming out, they have been pretty lackluster.
[00:30:54] So I, I, as a company would be concerned about losing those core, um, I think, I think at a whole, let's go one level up higher. Look at all the bad press that their, uh, owner has been getting. I think on top of that too, I think that's why you should do something. If you want to keep your, your players where they're at, you know, this is, this is what it is, right? Lay it all out there.
[00:31:23] Um, and the thing is, is we still don't know if these games that are coming in the future, fallout, you know, three and new Vegas remakes. Uh, fallout five. Are they going to be Xbox exclusives? We don't know that yet. And I do, I do realize that this, this could be like damage control, but all I'm saying
[00:31:46] is that this is an example of what should be happening normally with, with, uh, uh, game companies that this is what I, I, I appreciate about it is that there has been more on that. It has really because what do we know? So hold on though. What do we know of what Sony Santa Monica is working on other than part of its Lafay, but they're supposedly have a new IP coming. We don't know what it is.
[00:32:16] You know, um, Ben, we don't know what Ben's working on. Cause their last project was canceled. Um, you know, yes, we have naughty dog. A lot of things that are being said by developers that are said by publishers, like it's all fine and well until big daddy corporation says, you know what? Yep. 1500 layoffs. Oh, you know what?
[00:32:44] Uh, we need to cancel this company because, you know, there's some bad PR. So whatever they're working on, throw it away, you know, or, or you have like the studios that says, you know what? This is not what we're looking at right now. This is not our vision of the game. So we have to scratch it one, like go straight, straight to zero. You know, I can say all day that, Oh yeah. Fallout five is coming out.
[00:33:14] Sweet. That's it. No ETAs. No, Hey, there's some progress upgrades. That's fine. I don't care. Don't let me know. Then just surprise me. It's like, Hey, you know what? Bam. Okay. So you would just prefer not to know. And then, then to be given like a laid out, like a plan of attack for the next couple of years. I mean, like, unless you pull a Marvel because I want to go there.
[00:33:41] I'm going to go there right now because they planned out what like 50 years in advance of all their movies and all those phase bajillions a year. But then, and then what happened? What happened? What happened? What happened? Tell me what happened, Jerry. Tell me what happened. The second phase, the, the multiverse phase, it did not do well. Uh-huh. And then, and then, and then, so, and then what happened? Leaning into the pandemic, all the shows that did not do well.
[00:34:09] What, what happened to one specific actor? You know? Oh, uh, uh, Chadwickau, um, Jonathan Majors. Yes. Correct. The whole thing. So then what's the point of just like saying all this is like, oh, it's all hearsay until it actually happens. You know, it's just like I tell people in California, it only rains when it actually rains, you know, we're going to forecast for rain every day, but it doesn't rain. Nobody, nobody gets an umbrella.
[00:34:38] I'm, I'm just trying to speak in general. I think when it comes to like the core fans, they want to know some sort of news or plan of what's like happening instead of just hearing rumor after rumor, you know, I think that would get people frustrated to where like, I I'm just speaking in general where like, I, I think that kind of communication is key. Well, and I think though, to that point though, we're both of you guys are sitting on this too.
[00:35:08] Like as far as from my point of view is that you look at naughty dog, right? Everyone was like, what the heck is an audio dog even working on? They dropped the trailer for intergalactic and we have more news on intergalactic. Yeah. Nothing. We know on intergalactic, you know, it was what's Sony Santa Monica working on. And then we get, finally, we get the trailer for Le Fay, you know?
[00:35:38] So we, we look at even PlayStation series. We don't know what a lot of them are working on anymore. And I think that's kind of a, in an age right now with all the bad press PlayStation and Xbox are getting, and people saying they're going to jump ship and stuff like that. You would think you'd want to do a little bit of damage control and actually put out some notifications, at least like this from Bethesda. It says, here is what we have in the pipe.
[00:36:09] Yeah, exactly. Jason, you're not having it. No, I'm not having it because you can, you can have, you can have like, hey, this is what we're working on. That's cool. And then like you were saying that it's, we haven't heard a single thing. That's great. The problem is right now is that we live in this age, 2026, where we need to know, we need to, like, you gotta know, you gotta know right now. Like it's instant gratification.
[00:36:39] Yeah. Like, oh my God. Oh, you know, people beating games in like two hours, you know, like, oh, speed run. I need to speed run this game. Which is funny because we talk about that with like, you talk about that, but like black flag. Jerry's was kind of going flying through it. Then all of a sudden he's decided I'm going to do, you know, a hundred percent these islands me here. I am spending a half hour tonight. Freaking photo. Just taking pictures. Like, yeah.
[00:37:08] And, but the instant gratification, the instant want to know because of how fast the internet and how fast rumors spread, how fast everything like, oh, like at this point, it's like, what's the point in even throwing these out there? Because it's going to get leaked or these are the rumors. These are the, what we feel, you know, and it builds that anticipation for a lot of gamers, which is great.
[00:37:33] But at the same time, why are we like having to go through this hoopla when you don't even know we saw how many studios get canned in the last two months, three months, you know? Yeah. How many thousands of people have lost their jobs for this? And it's why, oh, we need cut budget cuts. Okay, cool. That's like, okay. Okay. Oh, the terrorists are doing the thing. Okay. And then, oh, uh, we don't like the way that this company is running their thing.
[00:38:03] Okay. Uh, like we're, we're having, uh, sexual abuse allegations or sexual misconduct in the work. Okay. Like, so again, this little, like, Hey, we're working on this, we're working on that. That's great. I love it. That's good to hear, but just pop it out. Like throw it at me. Like there's a big demo, you know, throw it at, throw it like how we used to have demo
[00:38:33] discs, throw it at me. Like, uh, how we used to have it where it's like, Hey, this is a big trailer. And then a month later, throw out a, uh, throw out a, uh, like an extra little. And do it so it's not locked behind a paywall of a certain tier of a subscription. Yeah. Okay. So, I mean, I get your point. Yeah. This is why I understand your point. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't trust all these things like, Oh, Hey, like, you know, it's all about a bunch
[00:39:02] of what if and what if, and then false hope. And then, then it, you know, if things don't come to plan, you know, it's, it's more false hope. I get you. Yeah. So, cause you guys know, I always for the longest time would follow final fantasy and every month or so they would have a lot of letter to the fan. I fell off. There was, there was a while. Remember when I was like, dude, it's not coming. Like we, it's been too long. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's what I think that's what kind of bread. The better.
[00:39:33] Every, every so often they have a live letter where you can say, Hey, you know what? Like these are the games, like this is what we have planned out for the next patch. Okay. And then they go by patches because we can, we can accept patches. Oh, the next patch is like maybe two, three months away. If they were to upgrade like, Hey, we have a big thing going on. Here's the next patch. You know? Okay. That's all fine and good. You know, uh, start start field.
[00:40:02] The world like, Oh, the next patch is going to be this big patch. Be ready for it. You know, it's not going to be right away, but at least, you know, it's in the pipeline. You know, these are the things that we're going to put it integrate. Don't, don't hide. Don't hide. Oh yeah. You have all these new things and new improvements that you're going to see. Like, no, don't hide behind it. Just throw it out there first. And then if people, cause then that's when people respond to it. Do we like it? No. Do we like it? Yes.
[00:40:32] Yo, I'm so looking forward to it. You know, whatever the case may be, you know, the up or down for that. Just like how we had with Sonic, you know, nobody likes Sonic, uh, big, a big uproar. And then look what happened. They literally had to go 180 the whole movie to redo Sonic. Hold on. Let's be honest.
[00:40:57] The original Sonic was a shit animation and deserved to be crashed like that. But still, it was pretty good. They threw it out there. Then they had time to say, Hey, nobody likes it. And that's what I'm saying with like, but that's the like, learn. Don't just be all up in there. Yeah. We have a bunch of new things coming out. Let go. Look forward to this. What is it? If you're going to do it that way, what is it? Yeah.
[00:41:27] Okay. I get you. Well, let's move on to something that Jason will be equally riled up about. Oh, let's go. Oh, we're, we're going to hit the Nintendo side of the equation. So Nintendo. So we've, we've, we've been bashing Xbox. We've had serious discussions about PlayStation's choice of direction and what they're wanting for their future. Um, and we'll talk about that in a second, but Nintendo's decided, Hey, everybody else has had by press.
[00:41:56] Let's just go ahead and add on into it. So, um, as we all know, those of us here in the States, uh, there was a lot of tariffs that were put on a lot of products. It was determined, uh, that those tariffs were actually illegal. So a ton of companies are seeking refunds for the money that they had to spend, which subsequently when they had to spend extra money, they raised the prices on consumers.
[00:42:25] Nintendo was no different PlayStation Xbox. They all raise prices because of tariffs. Well, now there is a proposed class action lawsuit against Nintendo because people want their refund for their switch to purchases and their switch purchases because of the prices going up.
[00:42:48] Um, he, where Nintendo is kind of getting a little hot water is because of, um, their stance, especially from their lawyers saying that the customers received exactly what they bargained and paid for. Basically the retailer and Nintendo set the price.
[00:43:17] The customers decided, Hey, at that price, I'm going to buy it. And well, tough deal with it. Um, and Nintendo's said the common thread among plaintiffs claims is that it is somehow unfair that Nintendo has not retroactively adjusted its prices for completed sales in response to the outcome of the turf litigation, but that is not how commercial transactions work.
[00:43:42] Nintendo or one of its retailers set a price for each product and consumers decided whether or not that price was worth paying. Those who bought Nintendo's products received exactly what they bargained for and paid for a console game and or accessory at a price to which both parties agreed. The money plaintiffs paid represents the purchase price of the goods they wanted and received. The plaintiffs are not entitled to a rebate simply because of intervening legal developments related to tariffs.
[00:44:16] Uh, I think that's a little tone deaf coming from Nintendo, but at the same time is it doesn't surprise me that none of these companies and we called it. Remember when we, when tariffs first started hitting and we start, started seeing all these prices go up. And I remember Jason was leading the charge on this one. You know, him and Theo were basically saying is once these prices go up, they will not come down. Yeah.
[00:44:42] And case in point, the prices went up on Nintendo switch and the switch to because of the tariffs and guess what? They're not coming back down for the tariff piece. They're going to stay up just, just where they're at because they're going to claim, Hey, computer parts. We don't have the memory to make our stuff. So it's rare. So we're going to charge them more for it.
[00:45:07] But I, I understand where Nintendo is coming from, from a business perspective, because they raise their prices regardless of what the reason is, right? They raise their prices. People said, Hey, I want to buy it at that price. And they bought it. It's economics one Oh one. You know, but at the same time is given that the reason they raised said prices originally was for tariffs that were illegally applied.
[00:45:36] Therefore entitling Nintendo to a, a refund of said money. That was, that went to the tariffs. I can see the plaintiffs going to you raised it, but now you're getting that money back. So not only did you get more money out of us, you're also getting a refund for that money. So they're Nintendo is essentially double dipping higher prices, got a more money that way. And they're getting all the tariff money back. Wow.
[00:46:10] Not a surprise. Not a surprise. Wow. Like I'm not surprised. Do you feel bad for the people? Yes. Yes. Do you feel bad for the computer consumer? Yes. Yep. But at the same time, everybody had a possible way to get a switch to before these tariffs happen. Correct.
[00:46:35] Did I have, did I get a PS, not PS, a switch to before the tariffs rose? Yes. Yes. Good on me. Right? Mm-hmm. I said, Hey, I'm going to buy it anyways. Might as well just get it when I can find it. Boom. It's like me getting my portal before they raised the price on it. 50 bucks. Yeah. Yeah. You kind of, it's, it's, it's economics.
[00:47:02] You have to follow the what's going on for those that do follow it, you know, good on them. They bought in before, before it got raised for those that are afterwards. Do you feel bad? Yes. Yes. But here, Mike, is it an honest truth though? Yeah, dude. Like, let's be real. If it wasn't a scalper, then it's, then it's the government. If it's not the government, then it's the company.
[00:47:32] You know, somebody is going to make that extra money. They're going to make that extra buck. Where I now does it suck that you see that this is happening in real time? Yeah. It sucks hard. Do you feel, do I feel bad for some of the people? Sure. You know, but at the same time, would you, would you be able to afford it? Otherwise you, you were thinking about it and then you're like, Oh, not anymore. And that's okay.
[00:47:57] I don't see prices dropping for PlayStation or Xbox either, because now, even though the tariffs are no longer in place, you have now the Ram shortage, right? Which that's, that's driving up costs exponentially. But for me, I look at it as kind of like, kind of shitty of Nintendo though, really, because you're double dipping. Not only did you raise the prices to cover the cost of the tariffs that you had to pay,
[00:48:27] you're now getting a refund back on those tariffs as well. So not only did you make the money, you're getting the money back. So yeah, they theoretically should refund them, but they're, you and I both though, they're not going to. Theoretically. Theoretically they should, but you want to have, you want to have good press in this day and age of super bad press for PlayStation and Xbox. Yeah.
[00:48:51] You'd be going, Hey, anybody who's bought in place or a switch or switch to during this timeframe, sending your receipt, showing the price and we will reimburse you X percentage. But they're not, they're going doubling down going, well, you agreed to the price. Yeah. You bought it. You bought it. You know, like if it was on sale, you would have bought it. If it wasn't on sale, you would have bought it. It's like the whole way for it to go on sale. Yeah.
[00:49:21] Wait for it to go on sale. Oh, it's not going to go on sale. Well, you know what? You're not going to get it. Wait till black Friday. Yeah. There's a sale then. No. Cause like you guys know me, I buy a plethora of games on black Friday. Yes, you do. You know, I built, I build my backlog more on black Friday. Yep. Why? Because it's always discounted that day. You know, black fly. Like for example, I expect, I don't, I don't assume.
[00:49:48] I kind of expect based on Ubi's track record that, that Assassin's Creed is going to be on sale on black Friday. In November. I would, I would say probably that's not a bad, a bad expectation because at that point you're talking five months after release. Yeah. Four or five months after release. You're two months or like a month or two after, uh, GTA six. So they want to try and recoup as much as possible. Yeah.
[00:50:17] So you're like, Oh no. Like I need to make some money back. Okay. And then you just like, Hey, you know what? It's all. We already made our money on the original black flag. This is just rehash. They don't have to like throw that much into it. No. And so, even though they are, they're getting a lot of great reviews. It's going over very, uh, like very well. Yeah. Yeah. So it does not bother me at all that, you know, Nintendo is double dipping. Good for them. Good for that Nintendo.
[00:50:47] You know, you made their money. You made the extra money. You know, it's then I'm going to apologize. Why? Because Nintendo, everybody has a family. Everybody, everybody gets kids at some point in time. I'm going to buy it anyways. Yeah. All right. Am I wrong? Am I wrong? No, you're not wrong. Really? I guess not. Yeah. You're not. Yeah. So. I know. All right.
[00:51:18] Lastly, let's go to the elephant. Let's go to the elephant in the room, which is the giant elephant in the room has been PlayStation physical discs for the last couple of weeks. It's done. Um, this is out on IGN. This has been a lot of other sources that are looking into this, but, um, some data is
[00:51:45] now coming out, um, about physical releases for PlayStation. Um, and there is a guy, um, Matt, uh, Piscatello is the senior director and video game industry advisor at Serkana. Um, he's confirmed, and this is kind of, now this is us numbers though, confirmed that
[00:52:15] just seven PlayStation video games had sold more than a hundred thousand physical units so far this year. And only two have sold more than 10,000 physical units in the U S during the week of July 11th. I think for when you say that you've got only seven that have sold more than a hundred thousand
[00:52:37] physical units, that's pretty damning when you've got Sony going, Hey, everybody really wants digital. And not true. You only have, I mean, no grant. Don't get me wrong. Physical. I think still has to have its place. I really do for a lot of things that we've outlined past couple of weeks, but from, if you take it from a pure business perspective, right?
[00:53:05] Is that you only have seven games that have gone over a hundred thousand physical copies. Okay. So that's seven out of how many total games have launched. And then only two of them have only sold more than 10,000 in the last two weeks. Um, but I think where things really break down is that, you know, the ERA, which is Europe's entertainment retail association.
[00:53:34] They're saying, you know, 25% of those under 25, you know, use discs for gaming. You know, I wouldn't, I don't disagree with it. Like we should still have it, but I think one of, let me find it here. Okay. So yeah. So this breakdown though, which was really great by, um, by them is that how things work.
[00:54:02] So for Sony going all digital for new releases, you know, every cell it's, they're going to keep more. So first party PlayStation titles, they keep 65% of the money from a physical copy, which means so 35, 30% ish goes to the retailer. And then 5% is on the manufacturing costs. If it's a third party game, like Activision games, Sony just gets a licensing fee.
[00:54:32] It only earns 15% of that. So when you look at it being through the PlayStation store, all digital, no production involved, doesn't go through a, a, a retailer or anything. They're pretty much keeping a hundred percent of the revenue. And then on third party games, they're getting 30% instead of 15%. So one, yeah, it's a money. It absolutely. It's a money thing at the very end.
[00:55:06] People suck. Economics sucks, sir. Um, I really think a lot of this goes back to COVID. I mean, I think some would say that this, it was definitely like, it definitely helped and stem the, everything towards that direction. Um, it's a, it's just unfortunate.
[00:55:31] I feel that it's a, once again, it's a bit premature, but you know, Jason and I have, uh, always been preparing for this. It just, uh, yeah, I think when you look at this, it sucks. It kind of sucks. They said back in 2013, when the PS4 launched it data back then shows that only 13% of total full game unit sales for Sony consoles were digital, including digital only games.
[00:55:59] You look now come all the way through to 25. That's now gone to being 80% is digital versus 13%. So the pendulum is swung in 12 years, 13 years. Um, I still, as much as I'm all digital, I do believe that there's, there needs to be physical.
[00:56:25] And really for what we outlined just needs to happen. But like everybody's saying, they don't think that, uh, PlayStation is going to reverse course. I don't think they are. No. But, uh, I agree. I wouldn't, uh, just to, even just to say face or, I mean, as a business from a business standpoint, why would they go back on their word? You know, that was an official statement. They wouldn't do it.
[00:56:55] Um, all, uh, you know, the, all I'm going to say is, is that, uh, you know, I want to continue getting as many as, uh, uh, of those, the games that I'm anticipating. And I think I'm going to try and get some of the games I'm curious about to, you know, just preserve and get them in physical form and, you know, try and preserve.
[00:57:19] What is inevitably going to be, uh, it will inevitably cease to exist now. So that's too bad. That's unfortunate, you know, down with the physical, but we get it. It's, it's, you know, it's time. And, uh, that's where the direction is going, but you still at least have a year and a half. Yeah. Yeah. And a lot of really good, uh, games coming out.
[00:57:48] So, I mean, it's not like, it's not like Sony did this with six months notice though. Like that's the one thing, like I get it. Everybody's up in arms, but it's like, it's six days. And if I remember correctly, I got to pull it up. Um, the ESA was testifying that you actually don't even own your games when you buy them anyways. Um, yeah, that whole thing, you know? Yeah.
[00:58:17] I mean, the whole point of this though, and again, Sony is giving us the timeframe. Yeah. That way we do have time to adjust. Um, hopefully this does a couple things and there's some good and bad, you know, I could, I could go on the good and the bad on this subject for quite a while.
[00:58:41] But one of the good things is that you're no longer going to have full iterations. Next one is going to be only, um, digital. You know, there's not going to be the need for a disk drive.
[00:58:58] Uh, they can use that space to maybe add a secondary add on hard drive or more, uh, whatever, uh, whatever teraflops of memory or whatever. Better cooling. Better cooling. Better cooling. Yeah. Uh, more sleek. Maybe it'll be thinner. It's not going to be this giant refrigerator type unit. Uh, leave the speaker box out of this.
[00:59:28] Uh, which they did actually create a, uh, replica fridge to lean into that joke. But yeah. Continue. Yeah. But anyways, like PlayStation is going to have one, one unit now, one console. And I'm going to have a disk drive. And I'm going to have two different variations. You're not going to have like the, the lower cause from PS three on has always been this,
[00:59:57] like this cheaper quote unquote, cheaper version, slim version, you know, hard drive space, this and that. Now you're going to get the PlayStation as it is. And then two, three years later, you're going to get the pro version of it. And then that's it. Like you don't have to worry. It's going to reduce that much on the hard side.
[01:00:23] However, like I said previously with the, on the back end though, there's not going to be the need for a lot of mom and pops places. Even GameStop is not going to be necessary. Because GameStop says they don't even care because they don't do. They don't worry about physical get discs anymore. They're like, we're in collectibles. Oh, okay. No, it doesn't matter. They're going to die. They're going to die. They're going to die. I think so too.
[01:00:53] So, I mean, I, it's, it's, it's just, but for sure, mom and pop stores, as we said last time, they're going to die off very slowly. Uh, it's going to be turned into just an online market, uh, which, you know, when you go collectible route is, uh, you know, a coin flip, but Hey, it is what it is at this point. We'll see.
[01:01:23] Yeah. It's very niche. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And, you know, talking about that, like I said, I'm glad that PlayStation gave us a timeframe. Mm-hmm. Oh yeah. But I will say this though, you know, fingers crossed. The last thing I want to add the fingers crossed that if you do have a physical, hopefully you're able to turn it into a digital. So that's what I'm hoping. That's what they're hoping that PlayStation will do.
[01:01:50] Like kind of Xbox is already rumored to be doing, but I will say this though, is that, you know, I still kind of go in and look at like Vita and PS3 pricing and stuff like that. Dude, Vita prices have already jumped in response to physical going away and the PS3. Well, especially because of all the modding, the modding that you can do with it. And correct. Yeah. Yeah. So it's always been popular, but now, now it's getting a resurgence. Gotcha.
[01:02:21] So with that, Jay, what you been playing? What you been watching? Um, I've been watching obviously more like there's a weekly episodic Chainsmoke Cat. If you haven't watched it, please watch it. Like I said, it's just hilarious, dude. It's stupid comedy, stupid comedy at its finest. Yeah. Um, other than that, I haven't been playing any really games.
[01:02:47] Um, just like my Mahjong on lunch, Mumu Musme on my breaks. Uh, yeah. Like I haven't touched Nine Souls this whole week just cause I'm just been so tired. Um, you know, and, uh, I think, well, like I said, my wife's close to beating Resident Evil. So hopefully we'll get to see that ending. It'll be cool. Yeah. Nothing, nothing other than that.
[01:03:17] Yeah. Just spend a quiet week. Honestly. Jerry. Great. Uh, let's see. Um, clearly you've been still playing black flag. Um, division has gotten a bit of a back burner, but we'll, um, I know Matt and I will schedule a day and hopefully you will join us please. Uh, Jason. And then, um, let's see, what have I been watching?
[01:03:45] I've been keeping up with, uh, the new Rick and Morty. Uh, I've still slowly been watching, um, uh, the Sopranos and what else? Obviously X-Men 97 and, uh, Key and Peele here and there for like comfort, like comedy. Okay. But, uh, yeah, other than that, I've just been watching, uh, also some older movies that
[01:04:13] I, that I own just kind of rewatching got a little nostalgic. So I've been, yeah. We watching some older ones here and there, Matt, what about you? Uh, black flag, black flag, five when I've, when I've actually played, um, watching movie wise, uh, because of black flag, I did a complete rewatch now of all the pirates of the Caribbean movies, um, all the way through dead man. Tell no tales.
[01:04:41] Um, but I went and saw the odyssey. Oh yeah, that's right. I also, I also saw the odyssey and, um, back rooms and back rooms as well. Jared and I talked about this. I do not see what the whole kick up is about. It's woke, which like, who cares? It's Homer's the odyssey is a poem essentially.
[01:05:11] And, uh, above all, this is Nolan's take. It's going, go into it with that. And it is, uh, it is a beautifully done. Wonderful movie. Like I, I get it. Helen of Troy isn't white in some people's eyes, but you know what? Lupita Nyong'o did a phenomenal job for the, all of seven minutes of screen time, 10 minutes of screen time in that movie.
[01:05:39] She was fantastic. You know, Elliot page was amazing because there's, there's two key scenes that he was involved with and he knocked out of the park, both the scenes, you know, like honestly, the story, the, everything was great. You know, um, there's even a part of selling Jerry that I was seeing an interview with Tom
[01:06:09] Holland on it is that in the movie, it totally looks like CGI. It was practical effects. They actually found somebody with animatronics and molding that could help sculpt the things in the scene. So it was all practical. Really cool. And, uh, I did get to see it in the 70 minutes.
[01:06:35] I'm going to see it in the 70 millimeter, which is what it was shot on, which is really cool. Those the, like the outside scenes and being able to see more of where they're at was, it was great. Um, didn't cost me anymore really. So I was like, okay, cool. You know? So other than that, um, not a lot, just been real busy with rehab. Um, still doing three days a week, you know?
[01:07:01] So, you know, um, Monday I'll go for an echo and, you know, they'll be able to see that. Everything's still good. Still fixed. All right. Fingers crossed that rehab hasn't, you know, kicked it off or anything, but so far everything's flying colors. So. Nice. Very cool. With that, I want to thank everybody for crashing with us tonight.
[01:07:28] Uh, if you like a turd drops, follow, uh, head over to crashing game night.com. Uh, find the platform of your choice to follow us on there. Um, come next week, we should have our new photo section up and running with all our convention photos. And then eventually I'll start getting our in-game creation in photo modes uploaded as well. Um, but just with everything going on right now, everybody's got their own stuff that's
[01:07:57] that's impacting their lives. So please, please be excellent to each other. That's right. All you nerds out there. Uh, once again, we just want to send that message out, uh, especially, uh, you know, to, to continue on, it's still kind of crazy out there and people are, you know, still, uh, passionate about their opinions. So let's, uh, still just kind of take a step back. Let's try to do and be better.
[01:08:23] And if we see, uh, any opportunity out there to try and help someone out, let's try and seize it and, and help. And, uh, you know, just try and change, uh, one, one good deed at a time and, uh, everyone stay safe out there. J rock J bone to you. It is hot out there. So please stay hydrated. I'm just like saying, you know, wherever you're at, like, it's just in general.
[01:08:53] It's summertime. Um, if you're listening in the U S it is hot. So please just stay hydrated. Stay cool. Don't go over heat exhaustion, you know, take a break, take a small break. Um, go inside, go in somewhere. That's cool. It's a little like little breather, you know, Gatorade, you know, Gatorade, Gatorade. H2O.
[01:09:21] Um, get some high quality H2O. Anyway, just, it's, it's just enjoy, you know, we're halfway through the summer already. Um, so almost there. Hopefully you guys enjoy the rest of the summer. Hopefully we'll be able to find something fun for you guys as well. Uh, you know, there's plenty of things to do out there. So just hopefully, like I said, just be safe. Just try not to get a heat exhaustion. It's very common.
[01:09:50] Very, very like, very common. So anyways, I don't got my man Theo. Hey, hey, shout out to you Theo. You know, you're brother. Yeah. Feel better. And, uh, I will take it because Jerry, you always mess up and Matt's, you know, I can't, you can't do two things. Anyways, like always, if you like what you heard, if you like what you listen, you know,
[01:10:18] give us a follow, give us a shout out, leave some comments. Yeah. Maybe you need to find, uh, find a random person just to like, come on. So then Jerry doesn't have to do it. I don't know. We'll see. Ew. Anyways. So next time guys, CZFN talks for now. Good night, everybody. Later.
